HUNDREDS OF NBA LEGENDS TO DESCEND ON PHOENIX FOR

 

2009 NBA ALL-STAR WEEKEND FEB. 13-15

 

 

Weekend Highlights Include Annual Legends Brunch, Kids Basketball Clinic,

 

Par & Poker Tournament, Videoconferencing to Troops in Iraq & Much More

 

 

 

 

PHOENIX – The Legends of Basketball, the official retired players association of the NBA, ABA and Harlem Globetrotters, announces today its star-studded schedule of events for the upcoming NBA All-Star Weekend in Phoenix. From a five-star golf tournament, to a welcome reception, Spike Lee movie screening, kids basketball clinic and much more, Legends from all eras of professional basketball will make their presence felt throughout Phoenix from Friday, Feb. 13 to Sunday, Feb. 15.

 

 

As community outreach is a priority to the Legends, numerous Members will participate in a Legends of Basketball community initiative in Phoenix. More than 100 boys and girls from Phoenix’s inner-city will gather at the Harmon Park indoor gymnasium to learn the fundamentals of basketball from the best of the best on Saturday, Feb. 14 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. City of Phoenix District 7 Councilman Michael Nowakowski is scheduled to attend to address the kids as well.

 

 

Throughout the weekend, The Legends of Basketball is also partnering with Champions for Champions (C4C), in conjunction with the U.S. Army, to set-up live videoconferencing stations that will allow the Legends to help boost soldier morale by sending video messages to Iraq and to wounded soldiers at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC. Videoconference stations will be set up at Legends events on Friday and Saturday.
